Day Twenty

Bill went out for another early morning bike ride and actually rode some of the trail we walked yesterday. We left Sedona at 9 ish and drove from an elevation of 4,350ft up to Flagstaff at an elevation of 6,909ft where we stopped to charge. The road out of Sedona was steep and twisting, as you can see from the display in the car, Bill had far too much fun zooming up and around the corners! It was amazing how quickly the landscape changed from the red rock to pine trees. From Flagstaff we drove to Cliff Dwellers Lodge in Marble Canyon, AZ which is at an elevation of 3,573ft. A very up and down day! Again the landscape kept changing from sandy flats to red rock and roads that you could see miles into the distance. We are 75 miles north of the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. We were going to camp 1/2 an hour away from the north rim, but there was no charging option so Bill went on the Rivian forum to see if any one had a suggestion where to charge in this area as nothing was showing up on the charging map. Someone replied that Cliff Dwellers Lodge had some Tesla Destination chargers, which Bill has an adapter for, the nice thing is it’s free! What a little gem this is, in the middle of nowhere! Great restaurant and lots of cool people to talk to! We had a chill afternoon and will go and see the Grand Canyon in the morning, when it’s a tad bit cooler, and will then head up to Zion National Parkin Utah. We saw one more Rivian SUV bring to total of Rivian’s seen to 10. I won the 2nd round of the alphabet game, we seem to get hung up on X’s for days and then forget we’re still playing!

Bill here, I wore the GoPro to record my ride on Mescal trail which has some nice overlooks but the GoPro cut out on me. I think it’s overheating in the heat. I added a wind sock which is made of foam but I don’t think it’s letting the heat escape. I hope what I did manage to record is interesting to watch. 🙂

  1. So
Much beauty! Have you seen other bikers, Bill? A great time of day to be out and moving!

Enjoy Zion. This is a place I want to visit again!

    1. I did come across some other mountain bikers and one of them had lived in Newton, MA! He’s now a jeep tour guide. Thank you for the recommendation of Zion! We really didn’t give it enough time so we will be back!
