Day Four

Most of today was traveling from DC to Suffolk, VA. Really didn’t think the traffic would be so bad but it was. I suppose it is a holiday weekend! Luckily Jade did the automatic driving during the stop and go traffic so all I had to do was keep a hand on the steering wheel.

I stopped for a bike ride at Pocahontas state park while Vick went to Urgent care because her body hates her. She managed to get poison ivy before leaving MA in the creases of both arms and got sun poisoning on the rest of her arms. So yeah, good times!

The biking was pretty good once I found the trails! Not a ton of elevation in this part of VA but I took what I could get. I did some tight singletrack first in the “morgan” trails and then ventured over to “blueberry” hill. These trails were setup to support adaptive cycles which means they are a little wider but still a lot of fun. At the top was a fun skills area and a jump line which I practiced on a little. Made plans to meet Vick at a Chipotle on the bike. Problem was the road had no hard shoulder so I thought I was going to die.

We made it to Scott and Patty’s (Scott is my God mothers son who I’ve known all my life). Had a lovely dinner and lots of talking to catch up!

Hope you feel better soon, Vicki! A lawnmower mechanic’s trick is to rub Witch Hazel on poison ivy with a washcloth. It feels heavenly and dries up the blisters at the same time. I haven’t suffered much since Matt taught me that one.
