Day Seven

Bill went for a ride after breakfast, I relaxed and read and took a walk around the campground, noticing peoples very elaborate tarps over their tents, thinking when it rains it really must rain! I was able to look up the weather this morning with the bit of wifi that we had and saw that thunderstorms were coming in after 3pm. Eek! We went for a swim in the river after lunch, ooh it was chilly but very refreshing! We got back to our campsite and played Cop It (Shout out to Bill’s mom and dad, Bob and Priscilla, this was the card game they liked to play) Bill was romping away with the game but I snuck up and beat him. Huzzah! We just finished playing cards and the thunder got closer. There was then a puny bit of rain which we were very disappointed by and then guess what it starting chucking it down! Our awning was not happy and we had to stand there holding up the middle so it would drain….not very practical so we put away our chairs, table etc and climbed up into the camper for a little siesta as it was perfectly dry up there! It stopped enough for us to make burgers and potato salad for supper but then started up again. Woodsman Bill went out into the forest to find a log that we could put in the middle of the awning so we didn’t have to hold it for the rest of the evening, he’s such a good boy scout!

Bill here, just a little more about my ride this morning. I rode from the campsite and used an app called TrailForks to find the trail head. Lot’s of climbing up the Cart Roads (My fellow mountain bikers will laugh at cart roads) but not too steep. When I turned into the single track it was very steep and lots of roots. I could ride some of it but it really is a hike a bike section, no point in wasting a lot of energy when the return on fun is so low. The downhill was worth it! They have re-worked the trail in 2019 to be more flow and less technical. Still some decent drops and some tight switchback turns. I ran across a hiker who warned me that he had just seen a bear on the trail but it was skittish and ran off. :-). I would love to see one but not that close! I finished the ride with a beer at the Bike Hub. While I enjoyed a nice cold beer the techs fixed me shifting which was sticking a bit. It’s a really amazing place, beer on tap, bikes and equipment for sale, repair shop and food trucks outside.

  1. Bill…..interesting you mentioned the bear because I was thinking about that at each stop when you would be riding (I’m assuming most of the time alone) and what or who you would encounter!

  2. Looks like you’re having a good time and bearing it the best you can with the weather. Happy you can still get wood at your age
