Day Eight

Back on the bike this morning and climbing back up again! This time I took Avery Creek trail down. Wow! This trail is FAST! I skipped the gaps but the drops and jumps were a lot of fun. One of the gaps you have to clear about 15′ over a creak crossing! The rain we had last night didn’t seem to affect the trails much, how could it, they are too steep to hold any water! 🙂 More rain is forecast for this afternoon so Vick and I decided to change plans and head to Knoxville, TN where the weather looks better.

Vick here….We left the campsite and went up to see Looking Glass Falls….really amazing that you have this little river then this huge drop off and amazing waterfall! We drove about 2 1/2 hours and then stopped at the Ijams Nature Center to bike on the trails there, very easy for Bill and ok for me! It had obviously rained this morning so the trails were greasy (slippery!) in addition to the roots and rocks I had some moments! I only fell once and it was because 2 trees thought it would be funny to be pretty much the exact width of my handle bars and it was right before going onto a wooden bridge…the multi tasking didn’t work out so well! It was 88 degrees so very hot to be biking, hence the pic of tomato faced Vick! Luckily there was a lake to swim in at the end of the ride….I could’ve happily floated there for the rest of the day. We are now camping at Low Meadow Farm, in a field next to a creek. We’re off to Forrest City, AR tomorrow which is a midway point to Bentonville, AR.
