Day Twenty Five

We had a pretty chill day today. Started off with breakfast at the B&B…..I have to say I was slightly disappointed with the whole place. It was a beautiful house in a lovely location, but we didn’t see the owners when we arrived and barely saw them at breakfast…very impersonal and not what you pay that much money for! Grrr! I won’t leave a bad review, but will email the owner to let her know that the whole point of being an innkeeper is to connect with your guests and give them that extra bit of customer service, otherwise we might as well go to the Motel 6 down the road! I wonder if this whole contactless check in nonsense is a thing since covid? Anyhoo, we went off to find the ‘Rat’ trails for Bill to ride and I went and sat by the lake with a view of the mountains at the Ridgway State Park and caught up on writing in my journal, I was a good few days behind. I also watched the F1 Qualifying, this week in Hungary. Lewis is on pole! Woop…..take that Verstappen! We drove to Nathrop, CO along Route 50 up and over the Monarch Pass at 11, 312ft. Ooof lots of ear popping and my husband thinking he’s suddenly a race car driver, putting the truck in sport mode and zooming up and around the corners. He was lucky, he wasn’t on the side where the road dropped off into oblivion…there were spots that had a puny guard rail, but a lot that didn’t….cue me getting vertigo!! We charged once at Rivian charger # 3 in Salida and saw 2 more Rivian’s, including the one we saw earlier we’re now up to 15 total. We got to the Chalk Creek Campground safely and yes you guessed it a creek runs along the edge of the campsite and no we didn’t go for a swim as it’s actually a normal temperature here and we can just sit and relax without having to get wet! We’ll save that for the White Water River Rafting tomorrow. Huzzah!

Bill Here..

After leaving Ouray we stopped at a trail network just to the north which was next to a lake. Vick hung out at the lake and watched F1 qualifying and I explored some new trails. I was taking a photo of the amazing views and started chatting with some other riders who had stopped for the same view. Two of them, Buck and Travis had just driven from Ohio and with their leader Ron (I think that’s his correct name) they would be doing the San Juan Hut to Hut ride from Telluride, CO to Moab, UT. I of course grilled them about this adventure and it sounds amazing. The people in charge of the huts stock them with food and water so you don’t have to worry about packing that on your bike. I think they said their bikes only weighed around 35 pounds or so. Just clothing, snack/food and the water you need for that day.

I think Russ or Ken has mentioned wanting to do this trip before and I’m all for it!! 🙂

Sorry, no narration on Todays video…

  1. So cool that you got to ride with some fellow bikers, Bill. Also happy that you Vicky are able to keep up on your F1 series.
