Day thirty three – The last day :-(

We left Russ & Sunna’s in State College, PA just before 8am. It really was a bittersweet day and I think we were both in denial that our amazing trip was coming to an end. We definitely had the last day scrunchies, a bit with each other, with the charging stations and the traffic! I think this was the worst traffic of the trip heading north into New Jersey/New York/Connecticut and finally into Massachusetts. It was lovely to be home and to see James, Lily and Gregory, who did a grand job  looking after the house, garden and cats while we were away.

How to even go about explaining that this was really the most amazing trip, the places we saw, the exciting things we did, the friends and family we saw along the way and most importantly the time we spent together. We got in our driving and camping groove and really had so much fun! The little camper was ace except in the HEAT!! Jade the truck did soooo well and Bill gets a special shoutout for all the navigation and planning all the daily charging. Thanks for coming along for the ride we hope you enjoyed it!

Bill here.. I did some additional stats here.. So I know from the stats below we drove 7,241 miles and used 3,378 kWh of energy.. I looked up the average miles per gallon for a Toyota Tacoma (22 mpg) and how much energy is in a gallon of gas (33.7 kWh). So we can factor this out and calculate that an ICE truck would have consumed 11,091 kWh of energy. Let’s figure out the cost of gas for the trip, average for the month of July for the USA was about $4.00/gallon which would put the cost around $1,316.00. The total amount I paid for fast charging was $583.98. Granted I charged at some RV campsites and I had a few Rivian chargers that were free. But I would have paid for those camp sites anyway. So a win win overall!

Till next time, Vicky and Bill

Stats for the nerds

State College, PA to Douglas, MA
409.7 mi
7 hr 21 min
2.2 mi/kWh
Total Energy 186.4 kWh

Total for the Trip:
7,241.3 mi

2.12 mi/kWh
Total Energy 3.378 kWh

  1. Welcome home!!! So glad you all had a great trip. What an adventure, I can’t wait to hear stories soon!

  2. Wow, what a trip you had! It must be amazing and also strange to be home again, almost as if the month didn’t happen, though of course it did. You jumped out of an airplane! You went river rafting! You did so many amazing things, and you did it together. I hope, in the midst of readjustments with family and place, that you can take stock of the amazing relationship you two have to go a month almost constantly together and come through it with no more than a few “scrunchies.” Thanks so much for bringing us along with you, it was a blast getting to see, every few days, what ELSE you’d been up to. Welcome home!
